This section outlines our school’s key areas of focus. It reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and responds to the evolving needs of our students. Whether centered on student engagement, social-emotional well-being, or academic growth, our focus guides our learning journey and informs the strategies we implement throughout the year.
Our School Learning Story Focus is on creating belonging and connection for all learners and staff in our school community. This focus is based on the Richmond School District's Strategic Priorities and our responsibility to create a strong network of connected learners to improve student and staff success. Our students told us through student focus groups and club representatives that they wanted to have more active voice and role in school-wide initiatives. As a result, our staff took action to create opportunities for students to find themselves reflected through whole school projects such as a student-directed mural project, and welcome entrance. Staff also participated to create a connected professional learning community by intentionally creating time to collaborate, share ideas, and improve learning outcomes for students. This collaboration led to increased sharing of best practices, with a focus on cross-curricular skill development especially in areas of literacy and numeracy.
As a result of continued focus on belonging and connection, we have noticed increased engagement in student voice from diverse learners, participation in club activities, and initiative from students to lead large projects such as AEC (Acknowledge, Educate, Celebrate) and Social Responsibility Days.
