An action that we have taken to support our school’s learning focus is: | In January, at the conclusion of semester 1, staff engaged in professional learning focused on deepening their understanding of executive functioning, including strategies to support students’ organization, task initiation, self-regulation, and working memory skills. This learning emphasized evidence-informed practices to strengthen situational intelligence/awareness, nonverbal working memory, planning and prioritization, sustained attention, cognitive flexibility, and the development of effective, consistent classroom routines to foster student independence. |
This action supports our school’s learning focus in the following ways: | The January professional learning helped to build staff capacity to teach skills such as future thinking (MIME), task planning and organization, and modelling readiness, better equipping us to foster students’ independence, self-regulation, and readiness for learning. |
