Williams Round About

The district has installed flexible delineator posts on our "curb ramps" in front of our school and in front of the Tuna Can.

These sidewalk areas are exclusively for emergency vehicles (ambulances, fire trucks) and district maintenance vehicles. During many times of day, and especially during busy evening events, cars have been parked on the sidewalks and in the drop-off only areas, leaving no room for emergency vehicles and also risking the safety of our students using the sidewalk and bike racks.

For student drop-off, the flexible delineators are spaced 7-8 feet apart, which leaves room for opening car doors.

The large orange pylons continue to be placed in the (right) drop-off lane of the roundabout after school starts (9am) to deter cars parking in the drop-off only zones. Without the cones, many cars park and wait for pick-up of teenagers up to 45-minutes before the end of the day which again, causes space issues for emergency vehicles. The (right) drop-off lane must be available for emergency vehicles, especially during the busy afternoon time on both sides of 3pm. We appreciate that this creates one 'pickup and drive through lane, in addition to the parking lot, for 3pm, but safety protocols for emergency vehicles are the priority. If cars need to stop and wait, they should be parked in a parking spot in the parking lot and not blocking the roundabout.

We continue to remind families who drive their teenagers to school to aim for 8:15am, so that traffic congestion is limited and we can all arrive to class on-time.
