Thinking of going into the Trades? 

The District Career office will be hosting several virtual information sessions, you can learn a trade and get certified while in high school. Some of the trade options include plumbing, cook, carpenter, electrician, aircraft engineer and more. You can earn both school credits and trade credentials while in high school. And the best part, these programs are provided for free, and you are paid for your trades learning.

KPU STRIVE – Soci 1125 Course

Richmond SD38 Career Programs is offering current grades 11 and 12 students the opportunity to take a FREE KPU Faculty of Arts course this January - April (see below).  The pre-selected course (SOCI 1125) runs one evening per week at the Richmond Campus and this FREE TUITION is covered through the generosity of Scotiabank and their ScotiaRISE program.  Students who are successful will earn both university and high school course credits.

 

Students who submit their applications to the SD38 Career Programs office by October 29th are automatically accepted. While this is open to all, priority is given to those who feel they may have barriers to university entry.  This includes students who are not on track to graduate.  KPU is offering many supports to ensure student success.

Applications OPEN FOR YOUTH TRAIN IN TRADES 2025-2026

Applications are now available for our Youth Train in Trades programs to be taken in the 2025-2026 school year.  First deadline to apply is Tuesday, February 11th, 2025, and the second deadline is Tuesday, April 8th, 2025.  To view see "Our Programs" tab for more information about the Youth TRAIN in Trades programs offered by SD 38.

DEADLINE (TBA 2025): Richmond RCMP Youth Academy

Do you have an interest in policing or emergency services? Are you willing to take a risk, and push yourself out of your comfort zone? Do you want to live a healthy lifestyle, and to be physically fit (by the program start).

To be a successful applicant for this program you must pass the interview and physical fitness test.

You must be available for ALL FIVE DAYS plus the graduation evening in the summer (you cannot be working during this program or attending summer school).

Training will be held in the summer of 2024 (Date TBD). This program is for students entering Grade 11 or 12 in the next school year. Cost is $200.

SD38 Parents are invited to attend to hear all about the Trade Training & Apprenticeship Programs, Dual Credit Programs offered at SD38.  Listen to talks given to presentations given by Industry Speakers and Program Instructors. Your Zoom login and password can be found on the Career Programs slat board located just outside of the Counselling Department.

JANUARY    ECE Assistant Program Offered at SD38 – Virtual Information Night (TBA) PM
Attend a Zoom info night and learn about the ECE Assistant Certification. Meet the program Coordinator. Suitable for students in Grade 10 or 11. Your Zoom login and password can be found on the Career Programs slat board located just outside of the Counselling Department.

JANUARY   Health Care Programs Offered at SD38 – Virtual Information Night (TBA) PM
Attend a Zoom info night and learn about the Health Care or Medical Lab Assistant Program. Hear from VCC Teaching staff. Suitable for students in Grade 10 or 11. Your Zoom login and password can be found on the Career Programs slat board located just outside of the Counselling Department.

JANUARY   Trades Training & Apprenticeship Programs - Virtual Information Session (TBA) PM
SD38 Parents are invited to attend to hear all about the Trade Training & Apprenticeship Programs, Dual Credit Programs offered at SD38 with tuition covered for the whole program. Hear from Industry Speakers and Program Instructors. Your Zoom login and password can be found on the Career Programs slat board located just outside of the Counselling Department.

 FEBRUARY    Manufacturing & Engineering Co-op Program (NEW) Offered at SD38 Information Night (TBA) PM
Attend a Zoom info night and learn about the MEC Program. The program runs full-time Semester 2 at Burnett Secondary School. Learn about Engineering, work experience, industry certification and exploration of the trades. Suitable for students in Grade 10 or 11. Your Zoom login and password can be found on the Career Programs slat board located just outside of the Counselling Department.
