The Arts

Steveston-London students have many opportunities to be engaged in the arts as we offer a wide range of clubs and classes in concert band, jazz band, choir, guitar, recording arts, drawing & painting, ceramics & sculpture, photography, digital media, drama, theater, directing and scriptwriting, and dance.  Each year, a group of dedicated senior students enrolls in our Art Careers program and many are accepted directly into prestigious post-secondary art schools.  We also present entertaining live plays and shows, and our bands and choir perform all over Richmond.  Our school is home to a 167-seat school theatre, spacious music room with recording studios, and three incredible art studios.  All students are encouraged to take classes in the arts or join the dance club, drama club, art club, ceramics club, glee club, yearbook club, jazz club, chamber ensemble, or extracurricular choir.

Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.  To be an artist is to believe in life.  I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for.  Music is life, that's why our hearts have beats.   Music can change the world because it can change people.  I regard theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.
